Class Dismissal Procedure

Class Dismissal Procedure

To ensure the safety of every student, teachers are responsible for supervising their class until each dancer has been safely dismissed.

Dismissal Expectations

Finish class on time and ensure students have gathered all of their personal belongings.

Keep students together until they are dismissed.

Dancers 7 years of age and older may be dismissed from the classroom without additional supervision unless the studio has been notified of alternate pick-up arrangements by a parent or guardian. Dancers are not permitted to wait outside of the building for any reason.

For dancers under 6 years of age, a teacher or student teacher must be stationed at the exterior building doors during dismissal to ensure no child leaves the building unless they are accompanied by a parent or authorized guardian.

If a parent or guardian has not arrived, the child must remain safely supervised inside the building with a staff member.

Never allow a young dancer to leave the building alone or with an unauthorized individual.

If there is any uncertainty regarding who is picking up a student, do not release the child. Contact the Director or front desk immediately for assistance.

If a student has not been picked up within 15 minutes of the end of class, contact the parent or guardian using the emergency contact information on file. Continue to supervise the student until they have been safely picked up. If you are unable to reach the parent or guardian, notify the Director for further direction.

Teachers must never leave the building until every dancer in their care has been safely picked up or released according to studio procedures. Student safety remains the teacher's responsibility until the dancer is in the care of their parent / guardian.

Student safety remains the responsibility of all staff until every dancer has been safely dismissed.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure

In the event of a fire alarm or emergency evacuation:

* Instruct students to remain calm.

* Lead students to the designated evacuation area using the nearest safe exit.

* Take attendance immediately upon arrival.

* Report any missing students or concerns to emergency personnel and the Director.

* Remain with your class until the all-clear has been given or further instructions are received.

* Do not re-enter the building until authorized by emergency personnel.

Student Injury Procedure

If a student is injured during class:

* Stop all class activities immediately and ensure the area is safe.

* Remain calm and assess the severity of the injury.

* Do not move the student if a serious injury is suspected unless there is immediate danger.

* Notify the Director or Front Desk immediately.

* Administer basic first aid only if you are trained and it is appropriate to do so.

* Contact the parent or guardian in person at pick-up or by phone as soon as possible, regardless of the severity of the injury. If emergency medical attention is required, contact emergency services immediately.

* Complete an Incident Report, available at the Front Office, before leaving the studio that day. An Incident Report is required for any student injury or medical incident that occurs during class or while the student is under the supervision of Revolution Dance staff.

* Send a follow-up email to the parent or guardian within 24 hours to check on the student's well-being and document the follow-up via an email to the director.

* Maintain the students’ privacy and do not discuss the incident with other families or students.

First Aid Procedure

* Every teacher is expected to know the location of the First Aid Kit.

* First aid supplies should only be used for minor injuries within the teacher's level of training.

* If first aid supplies are running low or have been used, notify the Director so they can be replenished.

Medication Procedure

* To ensure the safety of every student:

* Teachers are not permitted to administer or distribute any form of medication to students.

* This includes prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements, or medicated creams.

* If a student requires medication during class time, a parent or guardian must administer it unless otherwise authorized by the Director in accordance with studio policy.

Substitute Teacher Procedure

When a teacher is unable to teach their scheduled class, it is their responsibility to arrange an approved substitute teacher and ensure the substitute is fully prepared to provide a successful class experience for dancers.

Requesting a Substitute

* Review the approved substitute teacher list posted on BAND.

* Contact an appropriate substitute teacher to confirm their availability.

* Once a substitute has agreed to cover the class, notify the Director through BAND for approval.

* Do not assume a substitute is approved until confirmation has been received from the Director.

* Once approved, post the substitute coverage information on the designated substitute list in the office.

Preparing the Substitute Teacher

The scheduled teacher is responsible for ensuring the substitute has all necessary information before the class.

Provide the substitute teacher with:

* Class level and age group.

* Class structure and expectations.

* Lesson plan or class outline.

* Current choreography.

* Music required for class.

* Any important student information that may assist the substitute in providing a positive experience.

* Any additional notes or instructions needed for the class.

Communication Expectations

If you are unable to find an appropriate substitute, contact the Director as soon as possible for assistance.

Last-minute absences should be communicated immediately to allow adequate time to support students and families.

All substitute arrangements must be communicated through approved studio channels.

Substitute Teacher Expectations

Approved substitute teachers are expected to:

* Arrive prepared and on time.

* Follow the class plan provided.

* Maintain Revolution Dance teaching standards and classroom expectations.

* Accurately record attendance.

* Communicate any concerns or incidents to the Director.

The goal of substitute coverage is to provide dancers with a consistent, safe, and positive class experience even when their regular teacher is unavailable.

Classroom Visitor Procedure

To maintain a safe and secure learning environment:

* Friends, family members, or visitors are not permitted in classrooms without prior approval from the Director.

* Parents observing classes must follow studio observation policies and are limited to special event days without the prior approval from the director.

* Anyone entering a classroom must have a legitimate studio-related purpose.

* Teachers should politely direct unauthorized visitors to the front desk or notify the Director if assistance is required.
